Tales of future past – recap of 2021

In this post, we will make a short recap of what happened in Imaginations between Realms during the year 2021 and what is our action plan for the future.

What have we learned thus far?

In 2021, we began our project by free and unhurried exchange of letters. From these letters and from the mutually educational correspondence, we began conjointly studying the concept of ignorant wisdom. Our concept and position thereafter was inspired by the works of Keiji Nishitani and Jacques Rancière, among many others.  In its essence, we conceptualized ignorant wisdom as an art to be practiced. We concluded that the concept is in itself dynamic and by practicing it, the subject forgets his or her wisdom, therefore becoming ignorant. Our idea was composed into music by Topi Lepojärvi.

By this conceptualization, we established our mission and our Imaginations between Realms manifesto to promote action and new ways of doing, under which ignorant wisdom is cultivated. Because of the nature of ignorant wisdom, we want to foster new and imaginative ways of interpreting and solving contemporary social issues and subjective hopelessness.

With this aim in mind, we hosted a discussion and study group throughout the summer of 2021. In these discussions, we were impressed by how we could teach each other in ways we could not anticipate beforehand. By the same token, we hosted a concept café at the end of November. Our concept café took place as free and unhurried discussion, which took many paths but landed in the concept of nostalgia. Additionally, we have been part of a pedagogical experiment, where we, among a few teacher students, have been involved in further correspondence and lettering. The correspondence exceeds a learning diary, and is further studied as a method of learning together.

Our studies also evolved by looking into three attributes of ignorant wisdom, which we acknowledged as modesty, openness and curiosity. We published four blog posts of the foundations of ignorant wisdom and its attributes. Modesty is manifested in ignorant wisdom by acknowledging one’s limits and the inter-relatedness to other people and beings. By modesty, ignorant wisdom promotes fundamental and unrelinquishable equality of everyone. Openness refers to the attitude of moving beyond oneself and one’s own ego. Finally, curiosity is strongly linked to openness as it exposes us to see things differently, and invites us to take part in the poetic virtue of all human beings.

By the end of December, we have created a series of imaginations in which we explore the foundations of this position. Our hope is that we can both strive towards, and manifest these attributes in our quest for Imaginations between Realms.

What lies ahead for Imaginations between Realms?

Next year, we will expand our blog into 5 category series and invite others to take part in our quest for ignorant wisdom. We will begin by looking into categories of “digitalization and AI” and the “multidimensional understanding of human beings”.

Imaginations series will continue by looking into the foundations of compassion and the schema of pity.

We will also concetize ignorant wisdom by opening up some of our concepts and attributes further. With this, our aim is also to keep ignorant wisdom dynamic, which is on constant change. If you would like to join us, do not hesitate to contact us.

We wish you an imaginative year 2022!
